A-Venture Game

This game aims to teach entrepreneurship in a fun and exciting way to all who choose to partake in it. It is created for individuals aged 15 years and above who would like to have the opportunity to experience trading, strategizing, making money, purchasing companies and upgrading them with the goal of going public through the means of an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Players in the game act as entrepreneurs who seek investment opportunities in making money to reach their goals. The Bank, besides possessing all the monies, also acts as a Venture Capitalist to provide funds for the entrepreneurs to upgrade their companies.

Start of A-Venture

The objective of the game is to upgrade a minimum of 3 of your private companies to become public by means of an Initial Public Offering (IPO). The player without debts and has 3 companies reaching the IPOs stage first wins the game.

Preparation of the game

Each player is given $350 and the denominations are as given: 1 of $100, 3 each of $50, 5 each of $10, 9 each of $5 and 5 each of $1.

Lie out the board and place the Luck, Company News and Market News cards facing down on the assigned positions.

Personal Asset List

Each player will receive a “Personal Assets List”. This is to allow players to keep track of companies, Bonds and Shares purchased. Whenever Bonds, Shares or Companies are purchased or affected by the news or luck cards, the players will update their respective assets on the list.

Shares
Once shares have been purchased by a player, he/she is to fill up the name of the shares together with the quantity, the price at which the shares were purchased and the total dividends to be received. All changes with regards to Shares must be updated on the list, such as Bonus Issue and Share Split, or are to be removed from the list when the shares have been sold as the player no longer holds the asset.

Bonds
When a player purchases a Bond, he/she is to update the transaction on the “Personal Assets List” and record the name and face value of the Bond and circling the number of years to maturity on the list with each passing of the “Go!” square. Each time the player passes ‘Go!’, he/she has to cancel one year on the “Personal Assets List” as one ‘Go!’ represents one year. Once the Bond has matured, the player has to remove all details of the Bond from their “Personal Assets List” as he/she no longer holds the asset. The player is to collect the face value proceeds from the Bank.

Company
When a player purchases a company, he/she is to record the name of the company under the “Companies Owned” section in the “Personal Assets List”. Initially, companies are in the ‘Seed Stage’ and this is to be reflected on the “Stage” section. When a player upgrades or downgrades a company, he is to update the stage section beside the company’s name. Stages of a company include ‘Seed’, ‘Start Up’, ‘Early Stage’, ‘Expansion’ and ‘IPO’.

Counters

These are the counters made from clay!

Each player chooses one counter to represent himself/herself while moving around the board.

Company Deed Cards

These are some of the Company Deed cards that we have in the game.

The price of the companies is stated on the Company Deed cards and players have to pay the Bank the amount stated, should they choose to purchase the company.

When a player purchases a company and another player lands on that company, a Royalties Fee must be paid by the player to the owner of the company. Royalties to be paid are stated on the Company Deed cards according to the company’s stage. All companies will be at the 1st stage when first purchased and royalties collected will be according to those stated for the 1st stage. To upgrade the company to the next stage, an upgrade fee will be charged depending on the stage the player is at. A player may upgrade his/her company during his/her turn as when his/her judgment and financial standing will allow it, provided that he/she has not yet thrown the dice.

The mortgage price is also stated on the Company Deed cards where the player will receive the amount stated from the Bank should the player decide to mortgage his/her company to the Bank.
